Uploading Your Website Using FTP

Uploading your website using FTP

Once you have built your website on your computer, then you need some way to get it from your computer to your hosting account. You may be able to upload the files through a control panel in your hosting account. However, the best way to do this is by using FTP. FTP - file transfer protocol - is a way of uploading the data from your computer to the host. You will need an FTP client, and your account log in details for FTP. Both are easy to obtain.

FTP clients are freely available and allow you to log in with your host account details. The details should be clearly visible in your hosting account, if not, a quick email to your support should tell you where to find them. You enter these details into the relevant input boxes in your FTP client and you should be connected within seconds. Once connected, it is only a matter of dragging the site you have built from your computer into the webhost to upload your site.
